To take up my cross, to deny all that is me,
Such a daunting task, it is to be.
Leaving myself behind, all that I am,
So that I become, like the Son of Man.
Losing my life, so that I can live,
It seems such a concept, my life to give?
Yet it’s for His sake, and the gospels too,
That I must this, for its what He did do.
He denied Himself, submitting to the Father’s will,
So those that believe, the Spirit could fill.
I, too, must embrace, this God given call,
Knowing that by it, I’ll be free from the fall.
That doomed all mankind, to eternal death,
To experience the fullness, of my God’s wrath.
So I choose to believe, and deny myself,
All that it craves, of earthly mischief.
Taking up my cross, and all it alludes,
To follow unashamed of what it includes.
But to lose things, of this world,
Gaining eternally my soul.
This is what I choose, with His peace that it holds.
